Ready to Succeed – Learning Starts at Birth (and even before!)

As older children return to school this fall, it’s important to remember that our babies and toddlers are “students” too. They may not carry backpacks or line up for recess, but they are learning and absorbing at an incredible pace every single day.

Early literacy doesn’t mean teaching your baby to read words. It means:

  • Talking to them during routines like diaper changes or meals.

  • Singing songs and rhymes that boost memory and rhythm.

  • Reading books together to expose them to thousands of words.

  • Playing games like peek-a-boo that encourage turn-taking and communication.

When families engage in these simple, joyful activities, children begin building the very skills that set them up for success in kindergarten and beyond: language, problem-solving, curiosity, and confidence.

As a community, let’s celebrate that learning starts at birth and that every cuddle, story, and game is shaping a child’s future.
