Everyday Moments Matter

We’re thrilled to launch the very first issue of the Read Talk Play Every Day newsletter, a simple, printable tool created just for families in Rock County with children under the age of 5.

Why? Because learning begins at birth, and families are a child’s first and most important teachers. Early brain development doesn’t require special toys or hours of planning; it happens in the everyday moments you’re already sharing with your child.

In the first few years of life, more than 1 million new neural connections form every second. Every hug, word, and playful moment helps shape how your child learns and grows.

Here’s how you can build on what’s in the newsletter:

Turn the Color Hunt Game into a scavenger hunt around the house or outside. Add sounds or textures, “Find something green and soft!”

During story time, even if you don’t have a traditional book, use photos, grocery ads, or packaging to describe and discuss what you see.

Try the Basics Talk & Play at meals, in the car, or while waiting at the doctor’s office.

This is just the beginning, look for a new issue every month, packed with fresh ways to support your child’s learning.
